Period chamber music has a warm, snug aura to it.

In the case of Cleveland baroque orchestra Apollo’s Fire’s next program, titled Drive the Cold Winter Away, think of a gathering in a parlour in Olde England on a frosty winter night, drinking in both sober and lively tunes by the likes of Elizabethan composer John Dowland and 17th-century composer Henry Purcell.  (And maybe drinking something much stronger too, which Apollo’s Fire won’t have on hand!)

Grammy-nominated lutenist Ronn McFarlane and Canadian soprano Meredith Hall (pictured), both familiar to Apollo’s Fire audiences from previous guest appearances with the ensemble, are featured performers for the five performances. McFarlane will give a talk an hour prior to each concert.

Wednesday’s concert is at First United Methodist Church in Akron. On Thursday and Friday, the group will perform at a new venue, Rockefeller’s Restaurant in Cleveland Heights. Then it’ll return to two familiar venues — St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights on Saturday and Rocky River Presbyterian Church on Sunday.

Tickets are $21-$68.
