Free @BeachlandBallroom Show Features Brooklyn’s Milagres

Thu 1/16 @ 9PM

What makes tonight’s show at the Beachland Tavern a “Beachland Appreciation Night”?

It’s the fact that the club is giving patrons some very cool music — for free.

Brooklyn-based quartet Milagres is kicking off their tour at the Beachland. In Brooklyn, where it seems like virtually the entire population under 40 is in a band, the competition is fierce. But you know they stand out from the pack because they’re signed with Portland, Oregon’s Kill Rock Stars label, which introduced some of the key ’90s Riot Grrrl bands, like Bikini Kill and Bratmobile to the wider world, and worked with revered indie acts like the Decemberists, Sleater-Kinney, and Elliott Smith in their formative years.

The label released the band’s Glowing Mouth in 2011 and will follow it up with Violent Light next month. Most likely, they’ll be previewing music from it at the Beachland. Milagres’ sound leans to lush, yearning pop with a strong ’60s feel so fans of classic psychedelic rock and power pop should check them out.

Cleveland’s Sammy Slims opens. The evening will also feature food and drink specials. Doors open at 7; music starts at 9.
