Vocalist/pianist Joe McBride has been around. He was born in Missouri, spent some time in California, and then attended North Texas State University with its world-famous music program. About ten years ago, he moved north and made his home in Cleveland, where he’s been active in the area jazz scene.
He’s released eight albums as a band leader. The latest, 2009’s Lookin’ for a Change, features jazzy takes on contemporary tunes by artists like Seal, Corinne Bailey Rae, Coldplay, John Mayer, and Gnarls Barkley. Obviously, he casts a wide musical net when looking for source material.
He’ll be performing his annual Nighttown show in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day, bringing on board Pittsburgh-based sax player Kenny Blake, with whom he’s collaborated for the last couple of decades.
Tickets are $20.
