Born in Youngstown in 1931, Arnold R. Pinkney was a civil rights activist and political strategist who ran campaigns for Carl and Louis Stokes and managed Jesse Jackson’s run for presidency in 1984. He was a legendary politician who passed away on 1/13/14 at the age of 83.
His funeral service last Saturday at Olivet Institutional Church was packed with mourners, attesting to the great number of people he influenced. Pinkney is now laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery.
“Lake View Cemetery is honored to have Mr. Pinkney join us in perpetuity amongst leaders like President James A. Garfield, John D. Rockefeller and Carl Stokes, all who changed the course of history,” stated Katharine Goss, President of The Lake View Cemetery Association. “Mr. Pinkney brought together all walks of life as we do here at The Lake View Cemetery. We lost a great man, though not his legacy.”
If you’d like to visit his grave at Lake View, the cemetery is open every day from 7:30am – 5:30pm.
