In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, like many of the area’s institutions, waives its admission fee, something it’s been doing for 13 years. It’s a great chance to check out the museum’s array of regular and special exhibitions during its regular 10am to 5:30pm hours.
But that’s not all. The museum will also host education programs, family activities, and performances all day long. On the main stage in the lobby, you can check out groups like the Antioch Spiritual Arts Choir, a co-ed gospel/folk group from Cleveland’s Antioch Baptist Church; the Distinguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word, a performance art group of teenage males from Cleveland; the Inspire *1* One band, from the Cleveland School of the Arts; and Akron vocalist Macey Sampson.
In the 4th floor Foster Theater, there will be two free classes led by Rock Hall staff —Rock and Roll and the Civil Rights Movement and Cleveland Is the City, which will shed light on Cleveland’s own soul/R&B history.
In addition, the Rock Hall’s Library and Archives will present a special showing of materials and video from its collections, spotlighting musicians who have incorporated the push for social justice into their work.
