Violinst Ed Caner Hosts Dulcimer/Bass Duo @ConservancyCVNP Barn Concert

Sun 1/19 @ 7PM

Violinst Ed Caner is known in every nook and cranny of the area music scene. He’s played with pit orchestras for musicals and pop artists. He played with folk-rockers the Walk-Ins and progressive instrumental group Throckmorton in the ’90s; he’s currently part of Americana band Hey Mavis with his wife Laurie.

He also served a stint as artist-in-residence for the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. He still hosts monthly house concerts for CVNP in a restored barn on its Hines Hill campus.

Each month, he brings in guests to share the stage with him, using roots-based acoustic performers who suit the barn’s intimate rustic setting. Sometimes they travel to join him, and sometimes they come from nearby. This month, he’s tapped dulcimer player Tina Bergmann and bassist Bryan Thomas, a versatile husband-and-wife team. Not only do they perform as a duo, they’re also part of the folk-dance quartet Hu$hmoney who play for the twice-monthly contra dances at the Boston Township Schoolhouse in Peninsula.

Caner’s CNVP house concerts have been growing in popularity to the point where he and his guests are going to do two shows — one at 4:30 and one at 7pm. Doors are at 4 and 6:30. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for Conservancy members. Call 330-657-2909, option 4, or go to the conservancy’s website.
