Zach Freidhof wants to do more than simply play some songs that might touch some emotions or make you think. The Akron singer/songwriter has put together a program called “Ignite the Soul: Music to Uplift and Inspire” for a cabaret-style show at the Akron Civic Theatre.
The artist, familiarly known as Zach to his fans and friends in the northeast Ohio music scene, put out his first album when he was just 16, and has been active now for over a decade in bringing people together for good causes and promoting spiritual awareness.
He’ll be joined at the Akron Civic by violinist Samuel Salsbury as well as several other surprise “special guests” for an evening of what he describes as “original soulful folk and kirtan.” And he’ll be recording the show for a possible future release.
“This is a show I have been wanting to do for a few years now, and I am deeply excited to see it manifest,” he says. “I have a feeling this will be a life highlight for me.”
Part of the proceeds will benefit the Love Initiative Fund to promote nonviolence in the Akron area. The proceeds from his album of last year, Provenance, which featured contributions from 17 songwriters, are also going to the fund.
“Nonviolence is a big idea, reaching into nearly all aspects of life, so this fund will be looking to help many types of programs including nonviolent communication, conflict resolution, food and cooking programs, meditation, community-building skills, random acts of kindness, etc.,” says the fund’s webpage. “We hope to engage the community by seeing these programs enacted in schools, community centers, nonprofits, businesses, and other public arenas. One of the great consequences of such a fund is that it encourages not only existing programs to continue and expand, but it inspires other programs to begin.”
Tickets are $20 or two for $30.
