Arts Tremont Renaissance continues to present music by some of the area’s wealth of extraordinary professional musicians when it hosts a performance at its usual location, Plymouth Congregational Church, by violinist Jinjoo Cho and pianist HyunSoo Kim.
The two Koreans are prime examples of how and why so many musicians form ties to this city. They mostly arrive to study, which both Cho and Kim did — at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where both received master’s degrees.
Cho is on the cusp of a flourishing career, already having racked up performances with orchestras around the world, including the Cleveland Orchestra and CityMusic Cleveland, and extensively in Canada, where she’s done several concert tours. She served as concertmaster for the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra from 2003-2006, participating in CIM’s Young Artist program.
Kim, also at the very early stage of his career, arrived in Cleveland more recently, finishing his master’s degree at CIM in 2011 and then continuing his studies there. He’s also involved with Cleveland’s Classical Revolution, a project that brings classical music to non-classical venues like the Happy Dog.
The two will play a program of sonatas by Debussy, Janáček, and Prokofiev.
The concert is free; a freewill donation is collected.
