Cleveland’s Blue Lunch Celebrates 30th Anniversary CD Release at Nighttown

Sat 2/22 @ 8:30PM

Blues/swing/jump ensemble Blue Lunch has been kicking around town for a long time. Led by guitarist Bob Frank, this group of eight top-drawer Cleveland musicians has been livening up clubs and festivals for some three decades. In that time, they’ve released a half dozen CDs filled with their buoyant, danceable tunes.

Like many bands whose main focus is their own region, they’ve released them on their own. But now they’ve caught the attention of southern California-based Rip Cat Records, a young label (founded in 2010) focusing in older sounds like blues, R&B, and rockabilly. Since Blue Lunch dips into all of those genres — and many more — they were a perfect fit.

Rip Cat put together a 3oth anniversary release called Blue Lunch Special. This compilation will give new legs to some of the best of the band’s repertoire and hopefully expose it to a whole bunch of new listeners.

They’ll be celebrating this next step in their career with a CD release event at Nighttown.

They’ll be bringing in a friend to share the stage as she also celebrates a CD release. Columbus-based blues belter Long Tall Deb has a full-throated delivery that’s by turns tough, raunchy, sassy, and achingly intimate. If you like red-hot blues mammas, you’ll love Long Tall Deb.

Tickets are $20.
