When no touring jazz acts happen to be in the vicinity of northeast Ohio, that doesn’t mean there’s a musical drought for jazz lovers.
With seven area colleges and universities that offer jazz studies as part of their musical program, that means there’s a huge pool of high-level jazz musicians on their faculties. And musicians like that are rarely happy just teaching — they need to play!
Seven such players make up the CSU Jazz Faculty Septet performing at Nighttown tonight. The ensemble includes sax player John Perrine (pictured), trumpeter Joe Miller, trombonist Jason Smith, guitarist Bob Fraser, bassist Glen Holmes, pianist Rock Wehrmann, and drummer Bill Ransom.
