Surf Music Entertains Bowlers @Mahalls20Lanes

Fri 2/21 @ 9PM-1AM

Bowling is a kind of retro activity. It reached its peak in the ’50s and ’60s, and a lot of rockers now enjoy it precisely because it’s so redolent of those early years of rock and roll.

Surf music had its roots in the ’50s in the reverb guitar styles of players like Dick Dale, Link Wray, and Duane Eddy, and really flourished in the early/mid ’60s.

So a bowling alley is an appropriate place for a night of surf rock. Hammond organist Dan Shaw, guitarist Jesse Michael Barr, and drummer Nathan Parker are bringing their so-called “surf rock residency” back to Mahall’s 20 Lanes. The guys will be cranking out the tunes downstairs in the locker room all evening while the falling pins add their clattering sound effects.

It’s free.
