Texas Roots Rocker Alejandro Escovedo, R.E.M. Guitarist Peter Buck @KentStage

Tue 2/25 @ 8PM

Alejandro Escovedo’s long musical career began in the ’70s San Francisco punk scene (earlier if you want to count his musical family), then wends its way through early alt-country groups Rank and File and True Believers, which found him relocating to his current base of Austin, Texas.

He launched his solo career in 1992 and has released a dozen albums since then, most recently 2012’s Big Station. He’s worked with a diverse string of top-flight producers including Stephen Bruton (Kris Kristofferson, Carly Simon, Elvis Costello), Chris Stamey (the dBs, Whiskeytown, Alex Chilton), John Cale (Velvet Underground, Stooges, Patti Smith) and Tony Visconti (David Bowie, T. Rex, Paul McCartney).

He attracts such collaborators for a reason: everything he does reeks of quality, elegance, passion, poignance and depth. He touches on a little bit of everything that’s nourished American rock music, embodying its history.

He’ll be performing at the Kent Stage. His opening act is Peter Buck, who has quite a bit of history himself: he was co-founder and lead guitarist of the legendary and influential R.E.M.

Tickets are $20.
