Drummer Greg Bandy is another of those great jazz musicians who emerged from Cleveland to make a reputation playing with major jazz artists like Pharoah Sanders, Olu Dara, Joe Henderson, and Betty Carter, as well as his own ensembles. He spent a couple of decades in New York, came home for a decade, and then bounced back to New York in 2006.
But he hasn’t forgotten Cleveland. He’s coming back to Nighttown to host a birthday party for himself — he’ll be bringing the gift, his music. He’s also bringing a couple of musicians from the New York jazz scene saxophone player Ray Blue and guitarist Thomas Janzon. But, showing that he hasn’t forgotten what he left behind, the All-Star Quartet he’ll led at Nighttown also includes Hammond B-3 organist Eddie Baccus Sr, who still lives and performs here in town.
Tickets are $20.
