It’s always interesting to see how bands from different parts of the world interpret familiar rock genres — if they adopt the coloration of the style or bring their own twist to it.
Vaadat Charigim does the latter. The shoegaze trio comes from Tel Aviv and sings entirely in Hebrew, which gives their melancholy music an alien aura that exaggerates the cool remoteness already inherent in the style. Singer Juvan Haring’s vocals have been described as having a “haunting air about them that evoke a melancholic Morrissey at times and a post-punk Ian Curtis at others.” So you know this isn’t going to be happy, perky music. But it is enveloping and beautiful, as shoegaze music generally is.
The group will perform at Mahall’s with two local bands: ITEM (formerly Mystery Meat) and the Village Bicycle.
Tickets are $8.
