Outdoor Market Reopens at @NUFarmersMarket Shaker Square

Sat 4/5 @ 8AM-noon

Farmers market lovers eagerly await one of their most beloved signs of spring — the opening of the Shaker Square North Union Farmers Market’s outdoor market in early April, the first seasonal market to throw open its metaphoric doors.

The Shaker Market runs a scaled-down indoor market throughout the winter. But the number of farmers starts growing once the market moves back onto Shaker Square. You won’t find a huge abundance of fresh produce yet, of course. Expect early greens and things like potatoes that have been stored in cellars, as well as meat, dairy, honey, and value-added products. But of course you’ll be checking back every Saturday morning from now on.

The market kicks off the season with its usual sheep shearing ritual as a truckful of sheep lose their winter coats. If it’s anything like last year, and it looks like it may be, you may need to keep yours on.

For opening day, Cats on Holiday will provide live music, and chef Melissa Khoury will offer samples from her new artisan smoked meat and sausage business Saucisson.
