A couple of interesting bands you probably never heard of join Cleveland underground mainstays Morticia’s Chair for a show at Pat’s in the Flats, an off-the-beaten-path venue where you never know what you might hear — and it might be sublime.
Virginia fuzzpop band Death Valley Rally (pictured) and Philadelphia postpunk group Stellarscope are out on the road on what they’re calling the Popnoise Festival. The former sheaths a core of melody in a coating of pillowy distortion on their EP The Stars Shine Brighter After Midnight, while Stellarscope emulates the mournful energy of post-punk. They have a new album in the pipeline called The End is Near, I’m Not Prepared.
Morticia’s Chair are also working feverishly to deliver a new album before the year is too far gone, which will be their first in four years. The band blends goth, folk and rock elements in dark songs complemented by vocalist Mark K.’s richly toned vocals.
