Prolific Folksinger Dan Bern @BeachlandCle

Mon 3/24 @ 8PM

Folksinger Dan Bern has all the references you’d expect, from Wood Guthrie to Bob Dylan to Phil Ochs to the contemporary so-called “antifolk” movement. While much of his output is earnest and/or semi-outraged about social and political injustices, Bern’s also known for being a bit of a smart ass, injecting a vein of humor and levity into his work.

With 20 albums, including EPs and live albums, released since his 1996 debut Dog Boy Van, Bern’s is the epitome of a contemporary music career. He’s never had a brush with major-label “we’ll make you a star, kid” promises, releasing all his material independently, touring heavily, and using his prolific songwriting ability to create tunes for theater and films.

He’ll be at the Beachland Tavern.

Also on the bill is Michael Fracasso, yet another of those gifted, country/Americana-influenced singer/songwriters that Austin, Texas is teeming with. (He’s actually originally from the Steubenville area, but that’s a place people leave). He’s been kicking around for decades with much less recognition than he deserves. He’s also a cookbook author; maybe he’ll have copies for sale at the merch table.

Tickets are $15.
