Raspberries Guitarist Wally Bryson to Play @TheWInchester

Fri 3/28 @ 9PM

Wally Bryson’s guitar was part of the signature sound of much beloved Cleveland power pop band the Raspberries. But by the time they broke out with their first hit “Go All the Way” in the summer of 1972 — a song that would have been run-of-the-mill without Bryson’s biting guitar chords — he already had years of professional playing under his belt.

He was one of the generation of teenagers who formed bands in the wake of the Beatles. His first band the Mods became the Choir, one of the area’s most successful young bands of the ’60s. He moved on to Cyrus Erie, where he first worked with the Raspberries’ vocalist/keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Eric Carmen, before they formed the Raspberries in 1970.

For Bryson though, music has always been about more than a passing teenage fantasy of rock stardom. Committed to music, he’s never stopped playing even after giving up rock star dreams for a day job. He’s remained ready, willing and eager to show up with his guitar and play whenever the opportunity presents itself.

He’ll gather some musician friends and rock out as the Wally Bryson Band at the Winchester Music Hall.

Tickets are $20.

Great Spotlight on an incredible guitarist and wonderful gentleman: Wally Bryson. I’ve been a HUGE Fan of Raspberries since they “rocked my hometown” at the Brown County Fair in New Ulm, MN. August 15, 1974. The Starting Over Raspberries featuring Eric Carmen, Wally Bryson, Scott McCarl and Michael McBride put on a high energy Concert. My ticket stub from that Show: $3.50. What a cheap price for an “education in Rock ‘ Roll”. Had the pleasure of meeting Wally many times over the years and I’ve travelled to LA, Chicago, Milwaukee and Cleveland just to hear him play his “Flying V”. Can’t make the trip from Minnesota this Friday but I will play some Raspberries, Tattoo, Fotomaker, Sitting Ducks and Bryson Group CD’s to commemorate the Night. My must say: Hi to Anastasia who I met several years ago in Cleveland. Enjoyed your article and all the Great Photos you have taken. Thanks again Ana.
