The Cleveland Chamber Music Society hosts some of the top international chamber music performers as part of its annual lineup of concerts.
But it’s closing it’s 2013-2014 season with a group that hasn’t attained that level of fame quite yet. Its Young Artists Showcase features Cleveland-based brass ensemble the Kyōdai Brass Quintet.
Founded in 2009 by two sets of brothers, the group has the commendable mission of bringing brass band music into schools with limited music programs. And some of those programs have been sponsored by the Cleveland Chamber Music Society. Recently, they’ve extended their reach outside Cleveland, working in Detroit, Norfolk, and last year at the Aspen Music Festival, where they were awarded the 2013 brass quintet fellowship.
The group will perform music by Praetorius, Daniel Temkin, Viktor Ewald, Collier Jones, and blind street performer/avant-garde composer Moondog in its concert at the First Unitarian Church of Cleveland in Shaker Heights.
It’s free. A goodwill offering will be taken. You can make a reservation at the Cleveland Chamber Music Society’s website.
