A decade after Bay area pop-punk trio Green Day hit the top of the charts with its third album (and first major label release) Dookie, they got ambitious with on their seventh album, 2004’s American Idiot.
It’s a “rock opera” of sorts, following a character called Jesus of Suburbia through a lot of vague adventures and transformations (Hey, if you think about it, the Who’s Tommy didn’t really hang together either).
Five years later, the album was turned into a stage musical, with a fleshed-out story line. It played on Broadway from April 2010 through April 2011.
It’s now coming to PlayhouseSquare’s Palace Theatre for five performances as part of its Broadway series.
Tickets are $35-$75.
