Mozart’s Requiem On Tap for @CleveOrchestra

Thu 5/1@ 7:30PM

Fri 5/2 @ 7PM

Sat 5/3 @ 8PM

Sun 5/4 @ 3PM

Mozart’s Requiem is an interesting piece of music. His last work, it was undertaken at the behest of an anonymous benefactor and left unfinished at the time of his death. Other sections were composed by other musicians, and one of classical music’s great puzzles is trying to ascertain who wrote what. (It’s widely believed the later-identified benefactor intended to take credit for the whole thing).

Despite the piece’s odd provenance, the multiple performances by the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, led by guest conductor David Robinson, and featuring soprano Jessica Rivera, mezzo-soprano
 Elizabeth DeShong, tenor
Garrett Sorenson, and bass-baritone
John Relyea, should be magnificent.

The program also includes Christopher Rouse’s Rapture and the world premiere of Will-o’-the-Wisp: Tone Poem for Piccolo and Orchestra by Gabriela Lena Frank. It was commissioned by the orchestra and will feature the orchestra’s flute and piccolo player Mary Kay Fink as soloist.

Tickets are $49-$149.
