With two record stores — Music Saves and Blue Arrow — as well as other stores and galleries, live music on the street, and a free afternoon concert in the Beachland Tavern, there was lots of action on Waterloo Road on Record Store Day. Glorious weather certainly enhanced the festivities.
Music Saves opened at 8am for the early-bird shoppers; latecomers could get an autograph from the Toadies, who had a show in town that night. Blue Arrow had DJs all afternoon, including artist Jake Kelly whose new mural is on display in the store, local musician Lawrence Daniel Caswell, and Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley of indie-rock legends Yo La Tengo.
There was free music both on the street and in the Beachland Tavern during the afternoon. Filmstrip, the Commonwealth, and the Insurance Salesmen played in the Tavern, while out on the street, behind the construction tape, Max Stern of Signals Midwest, Dan Miraldi, NOMADS, and Oldboy played sets for people who paused on the sidewalk to listen before moving on to spend more money. The street music was sponsored by Space: ROCK Gallery.
