Angie Haze Project Debuts CD at Jilly’s Music Room in Akron

Sat 5/24 @ 7:30PM

We’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Akron’s Angie Haze, whose trio, the Angie Haze Project, describes itself as a “gypsy/cabaret/folk band.” You can hear in her recorded material how riveting her punchy, mercurial vocals are, touching on soul, jazz, rock, blues, folk, world music, and cabaret.

But people who have seen the group — which features Haze on vocals, piano and guitar, Hoseff Garcia on bass, and Timothy Ellinger on drums — say they’re something to behold with Haze’s striking gypsy/hippie stage presence.

The group’s got a brand new album called Heat to Cold, which was co-produced by David Mayfield of Kent’s illustrious Mayfield Family and the David Mayfield Parade at his studio in Nashville. He also contributed some guest vocals, as did Jen Maurer and Leigh Ann Wise of Akron zydeco band Mo’Mojo, and cellist Sam Kristoff from Kent folk-rockers the Speedbumps.

The CD release show takes place at Jilly’s Music Room in Akron, and it’s free. They’ll play from 10pm-midnight. But get there early, and you’ll get to see another of northeast Ohio’s wealth of wonderful bands, Americana trio Shivering Timbers.
