It’s sometimes hard to watch and listen to Cleveland songwriter/musician Ashley Brooke Toussant and realize that she’s a mature married woman who had a baby last June. With her sweet face, girlish attire, and piping voice, she could pass for 12 or 13. She sings her tunes with a delicate lilt that’s complemented by a fluttery stage presence.
Toussant released her debut EP in 2008, while she was living in Chicago for a couple of years. She returned home to northeast Ohio in 2009, releasing her full-length debut Sweetheart in the fall of 2011 after re-establishing herself in the local music scene. Life — that baby — led to a short hiatus. But she’s back now with an EP called With Regards to You, ready to hit stages both local and regional once again.
She’ll introduce the EP at a CD release show at the Beachland Tavern. She’ll share the bill with folk rockers Lowly, The Tree Ghost and young Akron singer/songwriter/keyboard player Emma Shepard, who released her debut album Public Displays of Affection earlier this year.
