Hear Jazz Sax Man Bobby Selvaggio & Get His New Album @HappyDog58

Sat 5/10 @ 9PM

Alto sax player Bobby Selvaggio is another of those cornerstones of the local jazz scene — the ones with world-class chops who perform in area clubs and put out new recordings, while teaching the next generation of musicians. Selvaggio earned his B.A. in music at Kent State University and his M.A. in jazz performance at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he spent four years living and performing.

But like many of his peers, he ended up back home in northeast Ohio where he’s now the director of jazz studies at Kent State. He hasn’t slowed down making his own music, though. His eighth CD, Short Stories, on the Seattle-based Origin Arts label, hits the streets May 20, only a little more than a year after his last one, Way of Being.

You can snag one earlier at his upcoming show at the Happy Dog. He’ll be on a bill with “Glamazon Chanteuse Extraordinaire” Miss Alexandra Huntingdon and Akron jazz/rock quintet Acid Cats.

Admission is $5.
