Bill Anderson was known to area music aficionados from his long-running (since 1971) radio programs on WRUW-91.1 FM, devoted to jazz, R&B, blues and early rock & roll. He was a passionate music lover who was deeply knowledgeable about the roots of popular music in general, as well as Cleveland’s historical music scene in particular.
Anderson retired from his long-time job at the Cleveland Public Library in 2011 but kept his hand in by volunteering at the Rock Hall Library and Archives, which combined his love of rock music’s roots with his librarian skills. He also continued to do his two WRUW radio shows, Bill Calls and Walking Dr. Bill’s R&B Survey.
Looking forward to participating more in the historical side of the area music scene, he died suddenly on April 9 at age 68 at his home in Cleveland Heights.
His friends will gather at the Beachland Ballroom to memorialize him informally. All are welcome.
