California band Fu Manchu was one of the wellsprings of the woozy, heavy metal-derived sound that’s come to be known as stoner rock. Formed in 1985 and releasing their first album in 1988, the band helped to lay the groundwork for an avalanche of bands exploring similar territory including Monster Magnet, Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, and spinoff group Nebula.
Anyone who loves this dense, blessed-out form of heavy music won’t want to miss the band’s gig at the Grog Shop. Cincinnati’s Electric Citizen and Mofos open.
