Cleveland-born and –raised trombone player Jiggs Whigham left town a long time ago. He was in his late teens in the early ’60s when he went on the road with groups like the Glenn Miller Band and Stan Kenton’s band. And he’s lived in Germany since the mid ’60s, where he’s based his international teaching and performing career.
But clearly Cleveland jazz buffs are always glad to welcome him home. He was at Nighttown last June when he performed with some area musicians, including trombonist Paul Ferguson who heads Case Western Reserve’s jazz studies program.
This time he’ll be at Nighttown for TWO nights with an international all-star trio, featuring two players much younger than himself (he’s 70): 46-year-old Romanian electric bassist Decebal Badila and 36-year-old German pianist Florian Weber.
The shows will be recorded by Cleveland-based jazz and classical label Azica Records.
Tickets are $25.
