Old-school soul is more popular than ever as the meteoric rise of northeast Ohio’s Wesley Bright & the Hi-Lites has demonstrated.
The bookers of the University Circle summer concert series Wade Oval Wednesdays have reached outside the area to present another band that draws on similar Motown/Stax roots.
Like the Hi-Lites here, the eight-member Nick Tolford & Company has been delighting audiences in their native Columbus. Featuring keyboard player/vocalist Nick Tolford and four (!) backing vocalists, the focus is clearly on those sweet soul harmonies.
Earlier this year the band, which has been together about five years, released its second full-length album, Just a Kiss. The free WOW show gives Clevelanders an opportunity to hear what music fans in Columbus are excited about.
There’ll be plenty of food vendors too, so bring your blanket, come for dinner, and stay to dance on the lawn.
