The grassy slope rolling down from the Garfield Monument at Lake View Cemetery will be rocking and jumping and swinging to the retro sounds of Cleveland’s Blue Lunch during the second installation of its biweekly summer concerts.
The eight-piece band, featuring four horn players, takes listeners back to the late ’40s and early ’50s, when rock and roll was bubbling under as various musical forms like swing, jump blues and R&B converged.
Last year, after more than 25 years together, the band released its first nationally distributed album, Blue Lunch Special, on Los Angeles-based Ripcat Records. These seasoned musicians wasted no time cranking out another. Last month, Ripcat head Scott Abeyla was in Cleveland producing their follow-up at the Lava Room in the Agora building. Look for that later this year.
There’s plenty of room on that hillside to dance. And the concert is free.
