It’s become quite the thing for jam bands to host their own annual festivals, where over a weekend, they host all the bands they’ve gotten known on the road while getting to play multiple times themselves.
Dayton-based jam band The Werks has followed that tradition with their Werkin’ It festival, taking place at the Legend Valley concert venue east of Columbus Fri 8/7-Sun 8/9. It’s the fifth year for the event.
The Werks will play all three nights, with several other act popular with the jam crowd — Papadosio, Future Rock, Zoomba, Dopapod, Zach Deputy — playing twice. And two rising northeast Ohio jam acts are in the lineup — Broccoli Samurai and Aliver Hall.
Four younger, newer jam-based bands from this area will try to land a slot on the festival. Drunken Sunday, Gypsydaze, Vibe & Direct, and Yosemight will participate in the Werkin’ It competition at the Beachland Ballroom. Each ticket-buyer gets a vote, and the winner goes to Legend Valley. So you can bet all the bands will be bombarding their fan bases with pleas to show up.
Tickets are only $8. It’s a great chance to check out who’s rising on the local jam scene.
