New Orleans Metal Band Eyehategod Back on Road @ClevelandAgora

Wed 6/11 @ 8PM

When you think of New Orleans music, what do you think of? Second-line parades? The Marsalis Family? “When the Saints Come Marching In?”

You probably don’t think of a bludgeoning, sludgy, grungy metal band you probably couldn’t dance to if your life depended on it. But Eyehategod, whose music is just as dense, dark and unforgiving as their name, have been making their heavy metal out of the Big Easy, the City That Care Forgot, since the late ’80s.

The band’s been relatively inactive since the mid 2000s. They’ve been impacted by drug use, Katrina, and the death of their long-time drummer in 2013. But they’ve got a new album on the way — their first full-length since 2000 — and they’re on the road again.

Joining them at the Agora will be veteran Cleveland metalcore band Ringworm. This show could effectively be considered the local release party for their new album Hammer of the Witch on Relapse Records. They were scheduled to celebrate on April 19 at the Foundry, but that show didn’t happen, thanks to two out-of-town hardcore crews who decided to stage a riot in Lakewood. Also on the bill are Enabler and Death Crawl.

Tickets are $20.
