Northcoast Jazz Collective Plays @HoldenArboretum

Tue 7/1 @ 7PM

This week’s edition of Holden Arboretum’s Tuesday evening summer concert series presents some of the town’s multitude of outstanding jazz musicians, a versatile quartet known as the Northcoast Jazz Collective.

Formed in 2003, the group includes four extremely seasoned players — drummer/band leader Mark Grey, pianist Dan Maier, acoustic bassist John Gallo, and reeds player Dave Frank.

Each is a familiar figure in the local jazz scene from the many ensembles they’ve played with. They’ve played with nationally and internationally noted acts too, ranging from free jazz star like Archie Shepp and Pharoah Sanders (Gallo) to Blood, Sweat and Tears (Maier). And they’ve showcased their original contemporary jazz and arrangements of jazz classics on a trio CDs. They can play Latin jazz and New Orleans-style jazz too if the occasion warrants.

Admission is $5, free for Arboretum members.
