PHOTOSTREAM: VegFest

Sat 6/7

The Cleveland Vegan Society’s second annual VegFest at Cleveland State University’s main classroom building supported their contention that eating vegan is growing by leaps and bounds.

The crowd that packed the ground floor food court, filled the classroom for the speakers and films, and flocked through the vendor marketplace probably included some meat eaters and plenty of vegetarians as well. But the dozens of food vendors — restaurants, coffeeshops, caterers, and specialty food producers — offered a multitude of reasons why giving up all animal-based food products (including dairy) isn’t that painful. The speakers offered ethical reasons and how-to instructions. And the marketplace connected attendees with both product sources and organizations advocating for a “cruelty-free” lifestyle, including many animal welfare and “justice for animal” type groups.
