The Melvins’ Buzz Osborne Does Acoustic Show @GrogShop

Thu 7/3 @ 9PM

“King Buzzo” is Buzz Osborne, the founding and only remaining original member of the mighty Melvins. Although the Melvins’ sludgy, abrasive metal-based music was and is profoundly uncommercial (if not anti-commercial) and underground, they were swept up in the wave of post-Nirvana bands signed to major labels, producing three non-hit records for Atlantic in the mid ’90. The fact that Osborne was a high school friend of Kurt Cobain’s was likely a factor

But Osborne and the Melvins (still a going concern after more than 30 years, with a new album on the way) just keep going on their merry way, which they undoubtedly would have done with or without Atlantic, influencing a ton of sludgy bands who have also become underground icons.

In a bit of a switch-up, King Buzzo will headline the Grog Shop as an acoustic act, performing both new material and reworked Melvins tunes. Los Angeles singer/songwriter Emma Ruth Rundle and Cleveland’s long-running 100,000 Leagues Under My Nutsack open.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show.
