Lock 3 Live, a large open space next door to the Akron Civic Theatre in downtown Akron, features live music on its big stage all summer.
Not as conspicuous is the smaller and more intimate Lock 4 behind it, where the Lockbottom Jazz & Blues Club takes residence. Starting this week and running through 9/3, it transforms every Wednesday into an outdoor cabaret featuring local blues and jazz acts.
It opens with soul/blues/funk singer Wanda Hunt. While she’s not widely known outside her hometown, Hunt’s band, the Wanda Hunt Band, has been a staple of the Akron blues scene for two decades. They perform a repertoire of beloved Motown, Stax, Chicago blues, and New Orleans R&B tunes, as well as originals, driven by Hunt’s probing, emotive vocals and the band’s beefy, horn-driven sound.
Admission is free. Food from Urban Eats will be available.
