The Stinchcomb summer concert series at the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks features mostly local bands. But this week they’re slipping in a ringer: Austin, Texas’s Bellfuries.
The well-traveled band has been developing its own take on rockabilly since 1998. Fronted by songwriter/lead vocalist Joey Simeone, the four-piece group reaches back to the ’50s to find the music’s roots in country (Hank Williams, Webb Piece) and rock and roll (Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins) and even soul (Ray Charles). They’ve got a new album recorded and ready to go, their first release since 2010 when they reissued their 2002 album Just Plain Lonesome with bonus tracks. They’re currently out on the road rocking America and making a stop in Cleveland before heading back out west.
The concert takes place at the Stinchcomb-Groth Memorial Scenic Overlook. You’re invited to bring blankets, chairs and a picnic. It’s free.
