First Annual @AltPress Music Awards Take Place @Rock_Hall

Mon 7/21 @ 6PM

Cleveland’s Alternative Press magazine, which has been documenting an evolving array of indie and alternative rock scenes for more than 25 years, has just entered the increasingly crowded field of awards shows.

Focusing on the type of bands the magazine emphasizes today — punk pop, post-hardcore, emo, screamo, metalcore, and related genres — the winners were picked by readers who voted on the nominees through July 15 in categories like artist of the year, album of the year, and best live band. AP will also hand out a few awards of its own for a total of 15 awards.

Once the votes are counted, it’s time to celebrate and AP is doing it up big with its first annual awards show at the Rock ad Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. It’ll be hosted by Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 and include a star-studded array of performances by Joan Jett (pictured) & the Blackhearts, Fall Out Boy, Misfits, A Day to Remember, All Time Low, Asking Alexandria, twenty one pilots, Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco and others tba.  Expect to see a lot of indie/alternative stars including Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan (who’ll received the magazine’s Vanguard Award honoring the influence he’s had on other artists), Korn, and Cleveland rapper/national breakout star Machine Gun Kelly.

The red-carpet event includes various auxiliary activities and the opportunity for fans to do a little star-hunting. For those who want to attend, there’s ticket info here, with tickets starting at $70.

For those who can’t make it, the show will air live on AXS TV.
