He-Chaw Frunk’s “Dark Hillbilly Rock” To Roil @Bay_Arts

Fri 7/11 @ 7-9PM

Yet another free outdoor concert series featuring mostly artists who do their own thing and not what is or has ever been on the hit charts! This one’s at BayARTS, the Bay Village arts center, taking place on staggered Fridays and Sundays through August 24.

They’ve already showcased reliable mainstays of the local music scene Colin Dussault and Moko Bovo. This week they’re dipping into something different.

He-Chaw Frunk is only a few years old, but they’ve really been getting around the local clubs in the last year or two. They’ve dubbed their music “dark hillbilly rock,” and they certainly do draw from the gloomier side of country, especially in Chris Bishop’s sandpaper backwoods holler. But you can discern strands of blues and rootsy rock in the quartet’s music as well. Not as bare bones as the White Stripes or Black Keys, they work the same general territory.

As dark as the music can be, it’s got a hot-wired energy that should keep picnickers entertained — and you are definitely encouraged to bring a picnic to this one.
