Grifters and Shills are not in fact scam artists, but a Houston band popular with adult alternative radio stations fronted by a pleasant-looking married couple from Houston, John and Rebecca Stoll. They describe what they do as “high-energy roots music.” With its vocal harmonies, and banjo and harmonica in addition to guitar/bass/drums, they create a lively sound with front-porch folksiness.
They’ve just hit the road on an east coast/midwest tour in support of their new album Watershed, and they’ve come up with a concept that enhances and amplifies the earthy, unpretentious quality of their music: they’re playing at farmers markets.
They’ll be playing at the Coit Road Farmers Market in East Cleveland during its regular summer Wednesday morning/early afternoon hours. So you can pick up some locally grown veggies (some grown right across the street), a loaf of fresh artisan break, and some spices from market manager Kevin Scheuring’s Spicehound, all while listening to some fresh and friendly music.
It’s free.
