The roots of BeauSoleil go back to a time when hardly anyone outside Louisiana was familiar with the Cajun and zydeco music indigenous to the region. It occasionally bubbled up in a chart hit here and there, but for the most part, it was regional music, often sprinkled with the French dialect native to the area.
Now of course, people across the country and around the world have embraced the sound. And BeauSoliel, founded by singer/songwriter/fiddler Michael Doucet in 1975, tour extensively, appear on shows like Prairie Home Companion, Austin City Limits, and HBO’s Treme, and have found favor in the roots music/Americana scene. As with most such bands, excepting the hyper-traditionalists, they’ve kept the sound fresh by adding new influences including blues, rock, jazz, Tex-Mex, and country.
BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet will perform at the Kent Stage.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
