Music Masters Series @Rock_Hall To Honor Everly Brothers

Mon 10/20-Sat 10/25

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has announced that the Everly Brothers will be this year’s honorees of its annual Music Masters series, taking place in October. This year’s is the 19th edition of the week-long event, which kicked off in 1996 with its tribute to Woody Guthrie.

Between 1957 and 1962, the brothers, known for their emotive, close-knit harmonies and soaring, melodic pop tunes, had 15 top 10 tunes.  Many were written by the songwriting team of Felice & Bouleaux Bryany, along some of the most memorable, including “Til I Kissed You,” “Cathy’s Clown,” and “When Will I Be Loved” were written by the brothers themselves, which was unusual for the time.

By the time their hits petered out, a band over in Liverpool, England was starting to attract attention adopting key elements of the Everlys’ sound, elements any Beatles fan will instantly recognize.

Younger brother Phil Everly died in January at the age of 74; older brother Don is now 77.

The Music Masters series always culminates with a gala concert, which will take place this year at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre on Sat 10/25, with country singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell acting as musical director.

The celebration of the Everly Brothers and their musical legacy kicks off on Mon 10/20 and will include a week of interviews, panels, film and other educational programs including a day-time conference at Case Western Reserve University on 10/25.
