The folks who maintain the Italian Cultural Garden in Rockefeller Park have the right idea. They envision their garden as not just a beautiful outdoor space to pay tribute to their heritage, but as a backdrop for living culture.
So each year, they host a free concert where Cleveland’s Opera Per Tutti — a little company whose mission is to take opera to unconventional venues and new audiences —presents a program of well-known Italian arias to perform in front of the Renaissance-style fountain. And they have wood-fired pizza and gelato available for purchase, although you can bring your own picnic as well. There’ll be wine tastings courtesy of Little Italy Wines too.
They’ll provide 250 seats but be warned: more than 1,000 people showed up last year. So if you want a guaranteed seat, bring your own. There is free parking in a nearby lot and on East Boulevard.
