Don’t feel like making the trek out to Blossom Music Center to hear the Cleveland Orchestra? The orchestra is trying a new thing this summer with its Summers @ Severance series — three August concerts taking place right here in town at Severance Hall.
The kickoff concert features a version of the program they’ll play at Blossom later in the weekend. Johannes Debus conducts the orchestra in Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess and Piano Concerto in G major, and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. And as at Blossom, 22-year-old British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor (pictured) will handle the solo part in the concerto.
The next two concerts take place on Fri 8/15 and Fri 8/29.
The front terrace at Severance Hall will be open before and after each concert for drinks if you want to hang out and make an evening of it. They’re promising “special happy hour drink prices” as well.
Tickets are$23-$85. And think of the gas money you save!
