You may be unfamiliar with Red Light Roxy, who’ll be providing the music at Wade Oval Wednesdays this week. That’s OK. They’re a relatively new presence in the local music scene, performing pop music from and in the style of the ’40s, drawing on performers like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, and Peggy Lee.
But if you think you’ve seen these musicians before, you’re right. They’re all seasoned veterans, mostly from the jazz scene. They include pianist Joe Hunter, sax player Dave Sterner, guitarist Daris Adkins, drummer Paul Samuels, bassist Demetrius Steinmetz, and slinky, sassy red-haired vocalist/actress Eileen Burns who embodies the era in her appearance as well as her vocals. (She recently spent a year touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.) There will undoubtedly be dancing on the lawn.
Wade Oval Wednesdays are always free. Bring a chair or blanket and your dinner, or buy something from one of the vendors that are always on hand.
