A Midsummer Night’s Dream @CleveOrchestra Blossom Concert

Sun 8/10 @ 7PM

Shakespeare’s romantic fantasy play A Midsummer Night’s Dream inspired early 19th century German composer Felix Mendessohn to write his overture and incidental music for the play, music which has remained beloved and frequently performed.

Since the play itself is set in a forest, it’s the ideal music to perform outdoors on a summer evening in a place like Blossom Music Center, where it’s part of the Cleveland Orchestra’s program tonight.

Led by pianist/conductor Jeffrey Kahane, making his conducting debut with the orchestra — making two conducting debuts in a single weekend — it will also perform Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 (“Italian”), Stravinsky’s Suite from Pulcinella, and Haydn’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in C major. The Orchestra’s own Peter Otto plays the solo part in the concerto.

Tickets are $23-$85.
