Cellocentric Brings Friends to Rockefeller’s for Gig

Sat 8/30 @ 7-10PM

Early this year, acoustic guitarist Doug Wood put out his latest album Cellocentric as the Doug Wood Trio. It featured instrumental music that incorporated elements of jazz, classical music, New Age, folk, and pop.

Somewhere along the line, the Doug Wood Trio became Cellocentric, an active band that has played a series of choice gigs this summer. Often the core members — Wood, bassist Darren Frate, and cellist Tara Hanish — brought other musicians onstage for shoes.

They’ll be doing that when they play at Rockefeller’s in Cleveland Heights tonight when they’re joined by violinist Chiara Stauffer and flutist Jeiran Hasan, a Cleveland Institute of Music graduate who is back in Cleveland for the weekend and stopping in to play.

The show is free, and it’s worth stopping in for the atmosphere as well as the music. Rockefeller’s is located in a soaring, second-floor former bank space with a menu overseen by noted chef Jill Vedaa. Its elegant but comfortable lounge is a great place to hang out, have a few glasses of wine, maybe a bite to eat, and hear some listening-type music.
