Documentary Cowspiracy @CedarLeeTheatre Exposes Impact of Livestock Raising

More people all the time are becoming vegetarians, and vegans are not a fringe hippie group anymore. Even many meat eaters are cutting back, looking for ways to eat a better balanced and healthier diet.

But eating less meat is not just good for your health, it’s also good for the health of the environment. That’s the subject the new film, Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret, tackles apparently.

I say “apparently” because the film’s website is not very informative about its content. But it’s likely that it exposes how resource-intensive raising cattle for market is, consuming enormous amounts of land, water, and feed.

Be warned though: it lists as one of the things the filmmakers want you to do as “Adopt and promote a sustainable plant-based vegan lifestyle.” And the screening is sponsored by Our Healthy and Humane Community, a group that promotes a vegan diet.

The filmmakers say they are showing the movie in theaters rather than making it available on YouTube as so many docs are because our consumer society doesn’t value what’s free. But you can see it at the Cedar Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights where it will have a single screening.

Tickets are $11 and you can make reservations here. There will be a Q&A following the film.
