Folk Revival Group Long Road Celebrates New CD at Nighttown Show

Wed 8/20 @ 7PM

Long Road features six area musicians who have been around a while —  most of them long enough to remember the ’60s folk revival. That’s the era the band was formed to pay tribute to, something they do both with their interpretations of songs written or popular in that era and their own tunes in that style. In fact, the group boasts that its motto is “Making Old Songs New, and New Songs Sound Old.”

Between them, David Budin, Kevin Richards, Bob Sandham, Ray DeForest, Charlie Lewis, and Celia Hollander play a nearly twenty instruments including guitars, of course, banjo, mandolin, autoharp, fiddle, dulcimer and pedal steel guitar.  And five of them sing, creating an array of vocal possibilities.

The group recorded a live album late last year, their first CD, and dubbed it Earthly Pleasures: Long Road Live at the Barn. Now they’re celebrating the official release at Nighttown. As with all their (infrequent) shows, they promise they’ll do some songs their audience hasn’t heard them do previously.

Tickets are $15, and they suggest making a reservation since their shows at Nighttown tend to sell out. The proceeds will benefit Cleveland Heights-based nonprofit Roots of American Music, founded by Richards, which uses music to teach academic subjects to underserved children.
