Should the Cleveland Indians keep the Chief? Or is it long past time to #dechief all sports uniforms? Author Ed Rice has been advocating for Native Americans’ rights in sports since the 1970s, and is the author of the book Baseball’s First Indian, Louis Sockalexis: Penobscot Legend, Cleveland Indian.
Now he’ll be at Beachwood Library shedding light on Chief Wahoo and Louis Sockalexis, who’s long thought to be the inspiration for the name of our baseball team. I wonder if Mr. Rice has heard the suggestion that the Indians should become the Cleveland Buzzards? Chief Wahoo could (for some money) be replaced by the WMMS Buzzard, and everyone wins.
